see ya, book buying ban

So, for the past three months or so, I haven't bought any books.

I've received books. Sometimes that shit just happens, you know; I've won some Goodreads giveaways, and even though I don't work at the library anymore, I still play D&D with some people who do work there, and sometimes, you know, they'll weed a book that they think I might like and they hand it over (which is always fun because in-game, my character is illiterate and refuses to learn how to read out of principle), but I haven't bought any. Until July 31st.

So here's the thing. I didn't really have a book buying ban, per se; I had this weird system that wasn't really all that well put together and 870+ (well, okay, as of right now, 872) books in a book wall to read. And so I wasn't buying books because I kept receiving books, and as that happened, the little sticky tabs of books I wanted that I have on the side of my computer kept growing and growing and growing. And I had this vision, you know--I had this vision of a book wall made entirely out of Goodreads giveaways. And I've read some really damn good books from Goodreads giveaways. My first Chuck Wendig book was a Goodreads giveaway. I won the first Gentleman Bastards book from a Goodreads giveaway.

But I've also read terrible fucking books from Goodreads giveaway. And there were so many books I wanted. And I wasn't even looking at the book section at Goodwill anymore. I live in this new town for three months and I don't even go into their tiny used bookstore on Central.

So I bought three books on July 31st, and I've got a new system. That new system is, I'll never finish the book wall, though that is, I guess, my main end goal of life, or something, but the last day of every month, I can buy three books off of the internet/my sticky tab list. And I can look at books in Goodwill again.

And, yeah, I expect my book wall will go up. Which is. Not great, but. Well.
