the fun (& weirdness) of writing a series out of chronological order

If you've touched the Aughts Boys series, you know that, if you were to put the first four books of the series in chronological order, they would go 3, 2, 1, 4. Book three, Right or Wrong , starts in August of 2003. Book two, The Horror of Camp New Woods , in June of 2004. Book one, One More Sad Song , in August of 2004 and, of course, book four, Hit or Miss , in August of 2005. Currently, I'm working on book five, Until I Fall Away , which starts in May of 2006. I have the first fifteen books written, at least in first draft form. Books 1-4 are published, so everything in them is Canon Canon. Book five is currently being rewritten, and it will then be edited, and retyped, and then published and be canon canon. Books 6-15 are in first draft range, which means that their basic story is set but little things can be switched around. Books 16-24 are only conceptualized. If I were to order them all chronologically, the ones with first drafts, at least, it would look like th...

I'm going to say that re-reads do not count, because if they did, then, well, it would be a whole lot of re-reads. But I just figured--let's see where we're at. 10. Red, White & Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston I just read this one like, last week because I saw the trailer for the movie and was like, inspired, also it's been in the book wall for literal years, and yes. Yes. It's as cute and fun as everyone says it is. 9. Babel by RF Kuang Another one that yes, everyone is right about. God, this was good. Fun times reading a fiction book with footnotes but yeah, this spoke to my humanities degree. 8. The Binding by Bridget Collins This one threw me for a loop. Dense, a little hard to get into at first, but I was not expecting how impactful this motherfucker would be. 7. Theme Music by T Marie Vandelly YES!!! Yes this was so good. Probably the best "tik tok" book I've ever read; this one was pretty popular on horror booktok like, last year? So much...

I turned 26 this weekend. It feels much the same as 25, as 24, as 23, as 22, as 21, and so on and so forth. I have been the same inside since I gained consciousness. Anyway, we went to Minneapolis. If you want to Get Away and you're from North Dakota, you go to Minneapolis. We had a concert on the 15th, and then we spent my birthday, the 16th, at the Mall of America spending exorbitant amounts of money because holy shit that's the best Hot Topic I've ever been in in my life. But the concert . I'm gonna be candid here, man--I think it might have beat out Slayer . I've been saying that November 19, 2019 was the best night of my life since that night, and guys--guys--guys. This was my first real pop-punk concert where I was like, in GA and guys--guys--guys. And it was only forty fucking dollars a ticket. So the lineup. Three openers. First up, This Wild Life . I really had no idea about this band and like, they were fine. They did a cover of "I Miss You...

So we're moved! Mostly. We're mostly moved. I've been chugging along 120 miles a day, most days, back and forth because a) I have so many goddam books and b) we were not like, super prepared for the move but our new apartment is LIVABLE and MOSTLY WHAT WE'RE MISSING is BOOKS and also OUR GODDAM FINGERNAIL CLIPPER IS SOMEWHERE AND I'M SLOWLY GOING INSANE. But I am liking my new office set-up. It's not complete, because my music stuff is still in our old apartment and also all of the boxes that I keep bringing to unpack are in the middle of the floor but I have room for a DVD shelf (!!!!) and I have my bookshelves and a slowly filling book closet and oh, did I mention it's on the first floor??? Fuck yeah. But I do like the apartment. It's a little adjusting and every time I go to our old apartment to get shit I fill up at least two trash bags and throw them away but we're getting there. We're getting there. We have the old apartment until...
