mid-year book freakout... in blog form, because there's no way i'm filming and editing a video in time
How is your reading going?
Ladies and gentlemen, I am BEHIND. It's a tragedy. I'm like thirty books behind my reading goal. Like, I meant to kick it into gear once summer started, but... didn't... exactly... happen? So. I'm behind. Don't think I'll be hitting my goal this year.

Best book you’ve read so far in 2024?NOT counting re-reads, it's got to be The Nickel Boys by Colson Whitehead. What a fucking book.

Best sequel you've read so far in 2024?Again, not counting re-reads because that's its own question one down, it's The Sunshine Court. Fuck it, I am AFTG trash. And yeah, I have those RainbowCrate editions coming.

Genre you've been loving/reading the most?
My top two genres are always horror and manga, but.. I've been getting into fantasy lately. Like, in a way that genuinely frightens me, because I've never really been a straight fantasy person. I straight-up claimed to dislike fantasy for a couple years there. So. Dunno what's going on there.
New release you haven't read yet, but want to?Did The Angel of Indian Lake come out this year? Because if it did, that one.

Most anticipated release for the second half of the year?Uh... I Was a Teenage Slasher comes out next week?
Uh... I Was a Teenage Slasher comes out next week?
Biggest disappointment?
Honestly... Seven Faceless Saints. Such a cool cover. Such a dull novel.
Biggest surprise?
Briardark! It was fantastic and has opened my eyes just a little more to the wonders of like, wilderness horror.
Favourite new author?
I don't know that I have one this year. I did read my first full-length Shirley Jackson? Michaela Gray was pretty good?
Newest favourite character?
The lead in A Lower Deep by Tom Picarilli was a fun guy.
What books do you need to read by the end of the year?
God, all of them. But I would like to maybe catch up on the Stormlight Archives, would like to finish up the Indian Lake trilogy.
Favourite post you've done so far this year?
I liked the top ten lowest five that I did for a couple months there. That kind of died.
